With a cornerstone dated 1844, and standing on her last legs, this beautiful piece of simple gothic art and architecture was brought back to life as a multi-use sanctuary for residents and wellness practitioners.

Re-imagining the Future of Space

This 10,000 sq.ft. abandoned Episcopal Church is re-designed to maximize adaptability. The goal is to create an flexible loft style living spaces adjacent to wellness practitioner studios. The design incorporates the 150 years of love found in the wood work, ease of movement between private and shared spaces, and historical finishes to evoke a sense of sanctuary and calm.

Conceptualization and Planning

Finding deep beauty in the craftsmanship drives the desire to reuse or refresh every possible element found in the original design. Mood boards highlight the use of natural wood, exposed brick, and luxurious fabrics. Detailed planning includes selecting paints, carpets and textiles that could direct light & sound within the massive spaces while enhancing features like 1889 stain glass and peg& beam roof lines.

Implementation and Styling

The implementation phase focuses on bringing the multi-use concept to life. The loft style apartments reused the wood removed from the opening of the false ceilings and beams left over from the original build completed in 1905. The kitchens showcase custom cabinetry and all floors were brought back to their original glory. The industrial chic theme moved across the the open style apartments and the design allowed for changes for future owners to reconfigure the spaces from one and two bedrooms to two and three bedrooms. Former classrooms were redesigned to create treatment rooms for doctors and wellness practitioners, using the original swinging doors and large windows. The sanctuary, was redesigned to incorporate a large group yoga studio and a small private studio.
